Although frequently linked to ancient quarries, like the "Clapham Junction" site, the cart ruts are not quarrying marks. They look like heavy loads transportation marks made on bed rock by still undetermined device that may be either wheels, sledges, or stone balls. In fact we don't know.
I have personnaly visited Clapaham Junction and Ta Cenc sites in Malta and saw together with cart ruts several clear quarry marks, such as parallel cutting benches, orthogonal rectangular cutting patterns on ground, and noticed that cutting benches and cart ruts tracks form groups intersecting at a constant angle, which tends to show a rational cutting and transportation organization. That appeared clear to me, especially at Clapham Junction.
