According to conventional history, Hawaii has only been populated by humans for about 1,000 to 1,700 years. Hawaiian myths claim a race of people called the Menehune were present on the islands at the arrival of the Polynesians who became Hawaiians.

These Menehune are credited with constructing fish ponds and various other works. I had always wondered if there might be some evidence of the advanced "Magicians of the Gods" in Hawaii. I should have been aware but I just stumbled across the Kiki a Ola irrigation ditch in a book. On the West Side of Kauai there is an irrigation canal credited to the Menehune made of smooth stones with a jigsaw like pattern that are typical in places like Peru.

This website has a nice little write up.

I'd like to hear Graham's take on it.
