IMO I do not believe there was a "global civilization" per se', but rather an original centralized group that travelled to various places which others learned the craft either directly or by osmosis which in turn over time others learned from them again either directly or by osmosis. There are enough ancient tales of "civilizers" who are credited with teaching the native groups the ways of civilization then leaving that I think lends credence to this idea.

As it relates to the OP though, the point I am making is to differentiate the "polygonal builders" from the "pyramid builders" which do not appear to be one and the same meaning they would have come, some might say "migrated", after the pyramids and temples were built having apparently left not too long after.
