Yes it's commonly refereed to as "flash", as in photographic flash.
In some countries 'electronic' xenon flash is referred to as "strobe".
Today it's almost universally known as "flash".

In the US a 'flash light' is a battery hand held lamp.
In the UK and Commonwealth it's referred to as a 'torch'.
In the US camera flash was, and still sometimes is, a 'Strobe'
In the UK camera flash has always been 'Flash' irrespective of the type.
