I believe it's possible that what you are calling water stains at the base of the granite box and walls may be an artifact of the presence of another material that once covered those surfaces (walls and floor) that was hacked off the stone by pillagers (including Mamoun) in the distant past.
There are many examples of this elsewhere in G1, including the damage to the Long Groove in the GG, the irregular flooring in the QC, the lower aspect of the AP, the strange formations in the SC, the chiseling around the portals to the Antechamber, QC niche, the bezel at the bottom of the DP, the so-called "Prism Stone" socket, the open cavity at the Main Entrance, among others.
If what you've outlined in red is water damage, why is it so irregular instead of showing a true "level"? What kind of liquid behavior would be a few inches thick but leave such an irregular mark around the base of the walls and stone box? Especially up there at the level of the KC?
