I've been going through _Magicians of the Gods_ and thought I'd reach out to the author with a question. Since I did not find a direct contact, I decided to ask here:
Why, given detailed astronomical knowledge, would a group dedicated to passing on detailed information on a particular period of time use constellation "pictures" rather than just making a clear star chart?
For the record, I'm a fairly open-minded skeptic. I do ask in the spirit of having a real conversation -- I have no issues wrapping my head around people having a firm grasp of astronomy 12,000 years ago.
