I could polish down the surface irregularities and then it just brick walled.
I wanted it to work and I thought at a stretch it might. In fact it's what finally convinced me that orthodoxy is full of crap.
There's no way that it could ever have been tried successfully.
I've never seen it done. Not on red granite anyways.
I might try again as I have a chunk of red granite to play with.
Some people keep jawing on about polishing but that's not cutting.
Polishing a raw granite block into an intricate statue??????
Give it a go, I used a 1/2 inch copper plumbing tube.
How the hell the AE ever managed to make an extruded copper tube I don't know.
The problems just back up.
Where did they get enough copper ore?
Where did they get enough wood to burn to make the copper.
How did they make the robust copper tube?
What did they use as hard solder?
Anyways give it a try see how you get on.
