Steve, IMO, I'm well past studying simple machines at this point.
Yes, lube reduces friction, too easy. (Rollers are Sirius' idea, right?)
I understand completely that resetting a counter-weight is part of using one, and requires effort to do so. The counter-weight IS YOUR idea, and YOU have assumed that they DID use water, and this water was raised up, etc, etc...I'm just trying to help you, understand?
I'm JUST offering ideas on how the c-w COULD work IF the resetting op was efficient enough to make it ALL worthwhile.....my best ideas ARE in 'New and Improved' posts in other thread, it's up to YOU to use/not use disregard, and/or whatever.
