My compliments on a well done topic.
Those that believe the AE "were not capable" of moving those large 20 ton stones, is to deny other culture(s), "were not capable" of moving those large stones. Including the Romans. Much of their understating, is routed in the idea, they had to lift those stones, when just sliding a stone, reduce the energy required by 80%. A 20 ton stone is slid, by only 4 tons. As Dr. Troglodyte has shown, a crude form of a wench, can move 2 tons. Place one such crude device, on each end, and you can wench the stones sideways over the pillars. Placed greased wooden planks down, until reaching the next location.
This notion, the AE couldn't move those stones, unless they employed many men with ropes , is propagated by ignorance. There are other simple tools and methods, ie. the lever, the 2:1 pulley without a wheel and axle. the wedge, the counter balance, to name a few. In reference to the counter balance, if you have to pull back up the weight you used to offset the other side, you have gained nothing. You might as well have avoided digging a pit , and used the energy required to pull back up the counter weight, and applied that energy (muscle) to moving the stone in the first place. We have been feed a steady diet of visual ignorance. Learn to ignore those visuals. Those of us here, are better than that.
What is lost in time, are the methods and many of the tools, the AE used.
