This whole thing could be proved/disproved with the publishing of some very simple metal testing. Take 15 minutes. As far as the boat is concerned, that is solved with one dive to the boat, call in a dentrologist, wait for his species indentification and tree ring dating (with C14 for approx. age), and finally call in an "antiquity boat building" expert to comment on the structure and building techniques used in the boat..Actual work probably should be around 2 weeks.

publish the results.. and the game is over...its either "ancient", or "medieval" or "modern".

am I being to "simplistic" here .....
